The Back Garden Gets Some Attention

We finally booked a skip for the long weekend and got working on the garden.  Mr V is due most credit as he has been pulling down the wall for days and days leading up to this next project.


Here's the skip at the start and end of the day...

We set about filling the skip with bricks from the old wall then all the garden waste, namely lots of mud, roots of old plants and twigs.

Here's Mr V doing his best with the ivy roots at the back of the garden.  After an axe, a crowbar and shovel, he took to it with a chain saw.  This still didn't lift the roots - tomorrow is another day...

The mound of mud at the foot of this image is going to be cleared in the remaining space in the skip - then the next job is clearing the mud from flower beds in the far right, before lifting the patio... I think we may need another skip...

First Look - The Dining Room

I haven't been uploading posts recently as I was busy preparing to and travelling to New York last week - a city where I return with at least three pairs of jeans, shoes and some form of dress or top! Last week I returned with a kitchen sink plug and a sink tidy....  There you have it... things have changed.


Anyway, since having a break from blogging lots of nice changes have been happening in the End of Terrace House.  Mainly our dining room.


This is where the dining room began...

Firstly we had to take down a paneled wall and underneath this wall we discovered some 1950's print wallpaper.  Mr V also discovered a fireplace behind the electric heater so this was uncovered too.    

Only recently we stopped using this room as storage - it's now freshly decorated and ready to be used to dine in - there are still lots of things that need doing to this room - namely laying some flooring, replacing a fire place, fittings some light fittings.  The furniture you see here too will eventually be replaced but for now - here is our gorgeous new dining room.

Colours used to create this space were Skimming Stone by Farrow and Ball on three walls (a warm creamy stone colour) and Adventurer by Little Greene on the feature wall.  


A fire place will be replaced soon but until then, we have filled the space with logs.  We also have a very beautiful voile curtain that lets the light in and keeps the nosy neighbors out. 

Spring has brought a hyacinth

Spring is certainly here in the End of Terrace House.  Today we saw our first glimpse of life in the garden.  Despite being a patch of dried twigs and leaves, we saw some hope for a beautiful garden at some point this year.

The Plastering

We're about to have the entire hallway painted and decorated but a slight hiccup occurred. Most of the walls in the hallway are either new or are able to be 'lined' with lining paper for a smooth finish ready for paint.

Earlier in the week our decorator gave us the news that he couldn't possibly do anything with this particular wall and the only way he could decorate further was if we had it replastered! 


The old plaster had 'blown' and it couldn't be fixed unless it was removed and replastered.  It's a very small wall and to give you an idea, this only cost £40.  But just as all the dust in the house has finally started settling, this had to be done.  Plastering isn't a clean job. Somehow, every time we've had anything plastered, the entire house seems to be covered in a veil of grey dust.  Anyway, it only took 2 and a half hours and now we have a freshly plastered wall ready for decoration.
